The Original Suffolk Collection

For almost two centuries Henry Watson’s Potteries have been producing quality earthenware in the heart of the English countryside. The terracotta (literally ‘baked earth’) tradition they follow has origins which are so ancient as to be obscure, but certainly stretches back more than 4,000 years.

The picturesque rural area of Wattisfield, near the Suffolk/Norfolk border in East Anglia, has been a continuous centre of pottery making since the special properties of the local clay were first discovered. Archaeologists have found fragments from the Neolithic Period, Iron Age, Roman occupation and mediaeval times in the vicinity.

The company’s success is attributed to a continuity and consistency of purpose. This is exemplified by the fact that there has been an unbroken family succession from Thomas Watson, founder of the company to his great, great grandson, Michael Watson the present day chairman.

Terracotta is characterised by a timeless colour and texture, even though manufacturing methods and designs have naturally evolved over the years.

These developments now culminate in a range of kitchen products combining practicality, style and quality as never before.

The Charlotte Watson Collection

This collection is a nostalgic evocation of late nineteenth century rural life in England and celebrates the times of Charlotte Watson (1818 - 1899) ‘a well loved and kindly lady’, mother of Henry Watson.

Made from fine cream earthenware, the detailed black decoration is fired directly into the clear lead - free glaze giving tough, resilient, dishwasher - proof finish.

Storage jars feature softly shaped beechwood lids finished with black lacquer, incorporating air tight seals for prime storage conditions.

The graphic theme of the pottery is carried through onto the packaging - each piece is individually gift - boxed for maximum protection.

Produced with the same craftsmanship and attention to detail that has established the current Henry Watson terracotta range, this new collection has already attracted world-wide interest.

The Suffolk Tableware Collection

The Suffolk Tableware Collection is the culmination of many years research and development
using innovative techniques rare within the traditional ceramic industry.

Four classic pottery colours that have withstood the test of time have been transformed into richly - coloured glazes that complement the red clay that has become the hall mark of Henry Watson’s Potteries.
